Phil Pitta Scholarship Fund

Education and Sports

"I wanted to put the scholarship fund in someone else's name and nobody else deserves that honor more than Phil Pitta" - Robert Arena

BBA strives to help children on and off the baseball field. We believe in more than just coaching the players; we believe in teaching values to the BBA children that will help them in their education as well as in their baseball game.

Many of these values were inspired on BBA co-founder Robert Arena by Phil Pitta. "He was my first coach," BBA co-founder Robert Arena explained, "He was always there for me. He taught me more than just baseball, he taught me about baseball and life. When I began to coach, I realized that I coach the way I coach because of him. He was a huge part of my life and I feel that a scholarship to help improve the lives of BBA children is something he would be proud of."

The Phil Pitta Scholarship Fund will be a beacon of BBA and an embodiment of what BBA stands for. The scholarship fund will help children in college and assist them in getting opportunities that may not of been available to them otherwise."I wanted to put the scholarship fund in someone else's name and nobody else deserves that honor more than Phil Pitta" claimed Robert Arena.

The 2015 BBA Awards Banquet

The first banquet dinner in Brooklyn Baseball Association's history was an undeniable success.
Many families and Brooklyn residents joined together at Gargiulo's Restaurant to celebrate a successful first year.

The festivities included a three-course meal, a ventriloquist, numerous speeches from Brooklyn-born residents and a fulfilling awards ceremony. Mr. Met even made a surprise appearance to take pictures with the children, even with the Yankee fans!

Among the many attendees stood former New York Knicks' Athletic Trainer Said Hamdan, former MLB Pitcher John Halama, and Seattle Mariners' Outfielder James Jones. All three honored the room with passionate speeches that helped inspire the children of BBA.

Said Hamdan first explained his upbringing and how be became the man he was today. Hamdan then exclaimed that he was "honored to have been invited" and that he "urged the kids in this room to find a passion and to make that passion your own."

John Halama preached about a main objective of BBA: working hard on and off the field. Halama urged the children to "work hard and make sure your grades are where they need to be." BBA promotes this goal by handing out trophies to the children for perfect grades in school.

James Jones recapped where he grew up and how he became the major league ballplayer he was today. He attributed a lot of his success to working hard in school when he said that "he couldn't of gotten through high school or college without working hard in school."

All and all, the night was an immense success for BBA Baseball. Many families enjoyed themselves and all of the children received trophies for working hard on and off the field. Make sure you don't miss next year's event!

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

BBA's Participation in the 2014 Walk

This Year, Brooklyn Baseball Association partook in the Making Strides Against Cancer Walk. BBA not only tries to promote the love of baseball to children, but we try to assist our children in building strong character through our Community Service Program. The Breast Cancer walk presented a perfect opportunity for our children.

We arrived first at the Juice Pedaler, a juice bar as well as a bike repair shop, located right outside Prospect Park. After some quick refreshments, we made our way towards Prospect Park and the Breast Cancer Walk.

performances, and an amazing song by a little girl, the BBA Family made it's way towards the starting line.
